Dhaka as the capital and the largest metropolitan city of Bangladesh has a population of 14.54 million people. It is expected that in year to come, Dhaka will experience growth of economy, where the owners of automobiles will accompany the growth of the urban population. In 2011 the Government of Bangladesh has accepted a report from the Japan International Cooperation Agency about the viability of the MRT line 6. The project has been accepted from September 2016 – October 2018.

The project involves soil improvement work with construction of Sand Compaction Piles and installation of Prefabricated Vertical Drains. Even before the soil improvement work starts, auxiliary works such as maintenance with the protection of traffic, installation and maintenance of temporary fences, establishment of site offices, testing of materials, public relations, relocation and reinstatement of public properties etc. shall be carried out. Embankment work will be completed in order to consolidate future settlement.
